The other day someone told me my hate for gourmand fragrances is very unfair. Well, I've been thinking it over for a while and I can say with some confidence that it’s not true, I don’t actively hate gourmand scents. When they are well built they’re great scents, and some are even masterpieces, harmonious designs that tell stories in which orange peel, vanilla, cocoa are characters in all respects. I wear Mitsouko (ripe peach), Dzing! (caramelized apple), Borneo 1834 (cocoa), Heliotrope (brittle), to name but a few, with great satisfaction .

Hiroshima Mon Amour (work in progress #2)

Immagine
Stephane emailed me a second report with his meditations and feelings about the new perfume " Hiroshima Mon Amour " he's working on. And soon I'll also post the visual of the whole project: very minimal, but vivid at the same time and high-impact. But now, let's hear what Stephane has to tell us about his creative process. Below, you will find also the French original text (thanks Nyneve/Anna Maria for the French vs. Italian translation!).

Hiroshima Mon Amour (work in progress n.2)

-2 all'incontro sulle spezie!/-2 to the meeting on spices!

A giovedì, allora! Ok, my notes are ready, the raw materials have been selected, and so are the perfumes we're going to analyze. So...see you next Thursday!

Let's talk about artistic scents

" Hot as cinnamon, green as cardamom. Spices help us to turn winter chills into chills of … pleasure ". This is the first of a cycle of meetings I organized in Genoa with the Perfumery store Caleri on artistic perfumery. Thursday we’ll start talking about spices: how raw materials are extracted from plants, we’ll smell some essential oils to learn to distinguish the notes and then we’ll trace them out in niche perfumes. The meeting will last a couple of hours. Three, counting the initial and final greetings and tea with biscuits (from 17 to 20). Caleri provides the chance to play with scents of all the brands they carry (The Different Company, Nez à Nez, Villoresi, L'Artisan Parfumeur, Etat Libre d'Orange, Mona di Orio, Bond N.9, Humiecki &Graef, Dyptique, Olivier Durbano, Montale, BOIS 1920, Creed, Odori, just to name a few), and I’ll play as a guide to the meeting. If you wish to participate you'll be very welcome, but since space is not huge, better t

Epic for Woman (Amouage, 2009)

Immagine

Epic is the second act of a love story told on Amouage website, it’s about the time when the fair mistress searches within herself her air, the voice with which to sing her love song. She is driven through the spice route, to finally find himself... Ok,ok, all very inspiring and romantic but, huh, absolutely useless. Let’s talk about the scent, ok? The fragrance approach is not brand new, this theme could have been banalized and discounted in the hands of someone less skilled, instead Epic shows a great character and a thrilling development .
