L'Arte del Profumo (The Art of Perfume)

The rich program scheduled for Pitti Immagine Fragranze days included, among other events, one which I was awaiting with particular thrill: the presentation of my book, "The Art of Perfume" published by Italian publisher Castelvecchi and just arrived in bookstores. I haven't written anything of it before because I didn't succeed, so I'm telling you now.  The book is designed like a manual taking es the reader to discover the fragrance world, helping to educate the nose with suggestions, stimuli, scent paths to walk around notes.
The book is my attempt to show scents under a different light from the one marketing has suggested us in recent decades: not as simple consumer goods to be distributed in millions pieces but as cultural objects, precious human handicrafts and in some cases, works of art. But to do so, we must learn how to be able to distinguished between perfumes created and intended as products, and perfumes which are conceived as creative acts, real emotions to smell and wear.

I enjoyed the presentation very much, I was sitting between our host, Agostino Poletto (left, Pitti Immagine Deputy Director) and Gabriele Ametrano (right, editor of the Corriere) who, besides being cultured and very charming fellows, are particularly interested in perfumery, so their questions and comments were extremely consistent and deep. The audience could ask questions and shortly the presentation became an happening among perfume aficionados, and the "half an hour" in the program became more than one. We were so taken from the discussion, we risked being locked inside the Stazione Leopolda!

I'm so, totally, thrilled! I had no idea you were writing a book... it's great to see the most knowledgeable bloggers around getting a book out.

My copy will be soon on the way, time to work on that atrocious Italian of mine ;)

Congratulations!

Ciao Marika,
