Bergamotto e Benzoino

Fino ad oggi, nessuna delle fragranze firmate dal compositore tedesco  Geza Schoen mi aveva convinta davvero. Avevo incontrato quelle della sua linea Escentric Molecules e poi Paper Passion , la fragranza ispirata all'odore dei libri appena stampati creata per il magazine Wallpaper, e avevo compreso che Geza ha una sua idea precisa ed originale su cosa dovrebbe essere un profumo, ma purtroppo la sua idea e la mia, finora non si erano incontrate. Nelle sue fragranze mi è sempre sembrato che accadano poche cose, che siano troppo intellettuali e poco eccitanti, mentre io considero "profumo" qualcosa di compositivamente più articolato, ricco e vibrante.   GS03 di biehl. parfumkunstwerke però, è tutta un'altra storia: originale, pulita e complessa, vi ho sentito dentro una maestria esecutiva e una "visione" che mi ha catturata.  

In questi giorni sto indossando " Giulietta Capuleti ", una fragranza lanciata l'anno scorso da una ragazza italiana, Brunilde Mara De Guidi.  Mara è cresciuta a Verona, non distante da quel Palazzo Capuleti dove si dice abbia vissuto Giulietta, e giorno dopo giorno si è abituata a vedere migliaia di turisti avvicendarsi sotto la famosa finestra da cui Giulietta si mostrava al suo bel Romeo... un giorno si mise a riflettere sulla personalità di questa eroina e sulla sua forza d'animo, passione, fedeltà ed indomito coraggio. Dalla sua ammirazione è nato il profumo "Giulietta Capuleti", una sorta di omaggio ad un'icona di romanticismo, una sorta di celebrity scent che la celebrity non ha potuto approvare per ragioni di forza maggiore, ma che probabilmente le sarebbe piaciuto molto perché ne rispecchia l'ambivalenza donna/ragazzina, passione/purezza. These days I'm wearing " Giulietta Capuleti " (Juliet Capulet), a fragrance launched last year by an Italian girl, Brunnhilde Mara De Guidi. Mara has been raised in Verona, not far from Palazzo Capuleti where Giulietta is said to have lived; day after day she got used to seeing thousands of tourists under the famous window where Juliet showed herself to handsome Romeo... one day Mara began to think about the multifaceted personality of this romantic heroine: strong, passionate,  faithful, and indomitably brave . "Giulietta Capuleti" scent comes out of Mara's admiration for her, a sort of homage to a celebrity -who couldn't test it for reasons of force majeure, but that probably would have loved for its woman/girl and passion/purity ambivalence. Tempo fa vi avevo parlato di una linea di candele, “ Castello di Ama ” (sito qui) che avevo amato molto: in effetti sono tra le pochissime candele che io abbia effettivamente portato ad esaurimento (di solito mi stufo prima). In particolare avevo apprezzato il fatto che la cera che si sciogliesse in maniera uniforme e che i profumi si sentissero bene già da spente; mentre da accese, devo ammettere che saturano la stanza.  Le fragranze descrivono olfattivamente le quattro stagioni in un podere della campagna Toscana, permettendo di assaporare i profumi che la terra emana ad ogni stagione. Ve ne riparlo perchè le stesse fragranze delle candele sono uscite anche in versione spray , e nelle ultime settimane ho potuto provarmele con un po' di calma.

Some time ago I wrote about a line of candles I love, named " Castello di Ama ” ( website here ): they're among the few candles that I actually burned completely (usually I get bored before). In particular, I appreciated the wax melting evenly and the scents, smelling great even when the candle isn't lit and fully saturate a room when it is. Moreover I especially loved the four fragrances: four seasons to spend in a farm in the Tuscan countryside , enjoying the smells that the land emanates in each season. Now the same fragrances are put into sprays, and in recent weeks I tried them with great pleasure.

L'altro giorno partecipavo ad una discussione sul forum di Adjiumi   a proposito di quello che desiderano i consumatori di profumi. Ne avevamo parlato già altre volte e so benissimo che né io né i miei amici di Adjiumi siamo i "consumatori tipo" di profumi: innanzitutto indossiamo più di una fragranza al giorno, siamo forti compratori e abbiamo idee chiare su cosa cerchiamo; inoltre siamo disposti a spendere senza grossi sensi di colpa, se la fragranza vale. Quindi il discorso non verte quasi mai su quello che vorremmo noi, ma sui gusti del pubblico medio.

The other day I was contributing to a discussion on the Adjiumi forum on what consumers seem to want, perfumes-wise. We'd already talked about it on other occasions and I'm aware that neither I nor my Adjiumi friends may be considered "average consumers" : first, we wear more than one fragrance per day and have strong opinions and likes/dislikes, then we're willing to spend, if the fragrance is worth. 
So, we were trying to guess what the average consumer would like to buy today.

Le materie prime che abbiamo in archivio ( 731 tra oli essenziali, assolute e molecole ), che inseriamo nell'Olfactorium in base alle necessità del corso, ci sono state fornite da tutte le aziende produttrici; non solo perchè si fidano di me, ma hanno compreso che la mia attività didattica diffonde cultura, e questo conviene anche a loro. Per quanto riguarda il resto, la mia attività mi ha permesso di comporre un patrimonio di conoscenze tecniche e di materie prime che vengono aggiornate mensilmente,

Mi fa davvero piacere intervistare Maria Grazia Fornasier, fondatrice e docente di Mouillettes&Co . Un po' perchè nei suoi corsi ho imparato tantissime cose e mi sento riconoscente, un po' perchè è stata un giudice severo del mio blog e questo mi ha sempre dato sicurezza: mi ricordo benissimo gli inizi (era il 2007): ogni tanto mi telefonava per dirmi “Guarda che hai fatto un errore” e mi spiegava il perchè. E questo mi faceva sentire tranquilla: se non arrivavano telefonate, allora quello che scrivevo era corretto. Almeno tecnicamente, perchè poi abbiamo gusti e punti di vista diversissimi...

I am really happy to interview Maria Grazia Fornasier, founder and teacher of Mouillettes&Co . One reason is in her training courses in perfumery I learned so many things I can't but feel grateful, and the other is that she was a harsh judge of my blog and this has always given me quite "safe": I remember being at the beginning  (it was 2007-2008) that sometimes she phoned and told me: "Look, you wrote a mistake" and explained why. And that increased my self confidence, because if no call would arrive, it meant I spread correct infos. At least technically, because then our tastes and points of view are quite different...
