Experiments aiming at combining cinema with odors were being made in the past decades; today I will tell you one of these, which took place in 1960, at the launch of the film " Scent of Mystery ", the only film shot in "Odorama". It was a fun and light thriller set in Spain, telling the adventures of an American tourist to save a young heiress from a conspiracy. But the hero can only identify her by her scent.  Thirty odors (including smell of coffee, salt, talc, toast and others) were made for the film, which were sprayed in the room through a device called "Smell Brain". The experiment, however, did not work too well, the machine wasn't working in synch with the film and would release odors late, with a whistle that distracted the public from the vision. Di esperimenti che hanno cercato di coniugare il cinema con gli odori ne sono stati fatti tanti, nei decenni passati. In particolare, oggi vi racconto uno di questi, che ebbe luogo nel 1960, in occasione del lancio del film " Scent of Mistery ", l'unico film girato in “ Odorama ”. Si trattava di un thriller divertente e leggero ambientato in Spagna, che raccontava le peripezie di un turista americano per salvare una giovane ereditiera sconosciuta da un complotto a suo danno. Ma il protagonista può identificarla -e portarla in salvo- solo attraverso il suo profumo. Per il film vennero realizzati trenta odori (incluso odore di caffè, di salsedine, borotalco, pane tostato e altri) che vennero spruzzati nella sala attraverso un dispositivo chiamato " Smell Brain ". L'esperimento però non funzionò troppo bene, sembra che la macchina non fosse ben sincronizzata con il film e rilasciasse gli odori in ritardo, con un sibilo che distraeva il pubblico dalla vision

(questo post inizia qui )  MAAI è un profumo che parte con un'insolita tuberosa verde, brillante , fresca, speziata, persino ruvida, accoppiata con un gelsomino sambac dal cuore animale. Ma la vera sorpresa arriva dopo 30 minuti, quando pensi di aver capito con chi hai a che fare, perchè a quel punto esce   un accordo chypre classico, ovvero ombroso, pungente, piuttosto chic, con un sottofondo lievemente cuoio/affumicato che si affianca alla tuberosa e la trasfigura . Il passaggio avviene neanche tanto lentamente e ti spiazza un po':   ti eri spruzzato Rossella O'Hara e ti ritrovi mano nella mano con Rhett Butler ! Questo scherzetto, che non dev'essere stato per niente semplice da realizzare, mi ha messa di buonumore, l'ho trovato divertente, mi ha colpita e stupita (e non succede spesso), soprattutto perchè non è diventato una cacofonia odorosa, ma è rimasto interessante, originale e soprattutto indossabile. But the real surprise pops out after 30 minutes, when you think you understand who you are dealing with, and instead a classic chypre accord takes the scene with its shady, pungent, personality; its slightly leathery/smoked background joins the tuberose and transfigures it. The transition is not so slow: moments ago  you had sprayed Scarlett O'Hara and you find yourself holding hands with Rhett Butler ! This joke, which must not have been easy at all to do, put me in a good mood, I found it funny, I was struck and amazed (and this does not happen often), especially because it has not become a fragrant cacophony, but still remained interesting, original and above all, wearable. O/E , too, is strange and particular, a citrus/aromatic which lasts very much on the skin

Ad inizio dicembre, RUDIS , il profumo che Nobile 1942 ( sito ) ha creato insieme al compositore Italiano Antonio Alessandria, ha vinto il prestigioso premio FIFI AWARD 2015 in Russia. E' una delle occasioni in cui il valore della profumeria italiana viene sottolineato, e quindi mi fa tanto, tanto piacere condividere questa notizia con voi. At the beginning of December, RUDIS, by Antonio Alessandria for Nobile 1942 ( website ) has won the FIFI Award 2015 in Russia. Because it is not easy to talk about smells, to explain to others what odors mean for us. (this post starts here ) The three fragrances have a strong impact and are quite intense, with a life that surprised me : hours and hours on skin, even days on clothes! Naturals contained in them accent and offer interesting shades, but are the synthetics the ones which provide stability to the compositions over the hours, which are quite linear throughout their duration. Bass is a beautiful and very challenging aromatic dominated by mastic, combined with incense, cedarwood and oakmoss, plus a hint of tea (that special tea with leathery and smoky notes, Lapsang Suchong type); I also detect IBQ (but maybe it is the mastic/leather/tea accord, that gives that "smoked leather" effect). The result is fascinating, with a very strong personality, intense, dark, bitter, cold, vaguely ominous and thus irresistible . I've worn it with true joy, this is an exciting scent. (questo post inizia qui ) Bass è un aromatico bellissimo e molto sfidante, dominato dal lentisco a cui si associano incenso, legno di cedro e muschio di quercia, oltre ad una nota di tè cuoiato e affumicato tipo lapsang suchong; io sento anche IBQ (ma magari è l'accordo lentisco+cuoio+tè che dà quell'effetto “cuoio affumicato”). Il risultato ha una personalità fortissima ed affascinante, è intenso, scuro, cupo, amaro, freddo, vagamente inquietante e quindi irresistibile . L'ho indossato con vero godimento, è un profumo che emoziona. Noise è il più indossabile dei tre, luminosissimo di aldeidi (davvero tante) e note ozoniche, sorrette da cisto labdano e accentate da zafferano e pepe nero. Intrigante, fresco, amaro e secco fino all'astringenza totale , portatore di una certa eleganza fuori dagli schemi, e parecchio originale. Bel lavoro, sia intellettualmente parlando, che a livello di indossabilità. Drone è l'unico che ho fatto veramente fatica ad indossare

L'altro giorno ero qui, alla sede dell'Accademia del Profumo (sito qui ).   L'occasione era la votazione per il " Premio Accademia del Profumo ", e io mi trovavo lì, come altre giornaliste e blogger, per selezionare i profumi finalisti a cui la giuria VIP dovrà assegnare i premi. Le categorie in concorso sono: - migliore creazione olfattiva maschile e femminile, - miglior packaging maschile e femminile, - migliore comunicazione maschile e femminile, - miglior prodotto made in Italy, - miglior prodotto di nicchia. Entrare nella sala della votazione e vedere i tavoli sui cui erano stati sistemati i profumi usciti quest'anno mi ha dato una botta di gioia: per me, l'idea di Paradiso ha molto a che fare con tavolate e tavolate piene di fragranze tra cui scegliere ..... :-) Volevo scrivervi per chi ho votato, ma mi hanno chiesto di non influenzare il pubblico che ancora deve votare, e quindi terrò a freno la tastiera e non vi dirò n
