Esxence report 4: Eau d'Italie's Graine de Joie

Immagine
Graine de Joie by Firmenich's Daphne Bugey is the eleventh fragrance launched by the Italian niche house Eau d'Italie ( site ), a brand constantly launching fragrances beautiful and/or interesting (as well as some masterpieces), at an amazing annual pace. Graine de Joie is exactly like you would expect looking at the pack and knowing the history of Eau d'Italie: a teenage riding her shiny red bike in the summer,  going to meet her boyfriend . It's a mischievous smile, a sunray, a cherry lollipop, a sunset cocktail, a fire-red dress with white sunglasses.  The scent is sweet-sour with red fruit and ripe pomegranate, and gently floral with freesia. At the base, cedar wood and a handful of those bright white musk Firmenich is a specialist of;  some flankers of Bulgari Omnia (Crystalline, Amethyst and Coral) come to mind, all suffused with the same sophisticated, luminescent trail . Graine de Joie is simple, naive, she only intends to make you smile. With me she was

Esxence 2014 report 3: Orto Parisi

And finally, I could explore Alessandro Gualtieri' s new line  Orto Parisi ( website ): Stercus, Brutus, Boccanera, Viride and Bergamask . I have so much to tell you and in fact, after exploring the scents calmly in the next weeks, I'll write a long post. For now I'm just giving you some info and suggest, if you have the opportunity, to pick them all to sniff. Because they are well made, sensual, with a taste for harmony and roundness typical of great classic perfumery, and then feature full-bodied and engaging notes (animal notes, resins and woods of both natural and synthetic origin). Smelling them, you may understand how Alessandro is different from a few years ago when his talent  highlighted also his provocativeness. Today the provocativeness is still there - obviously he's fun with it- but it's flanked by maturity, a sense of self-confidence and satisfaction in paying homage to his roots, to a much loved grandfather (Vincenzo Parisi, and the Orto -that me

Esxence 2014 report 2: Naomi Goodsir's Or du Serail

Immagine
After Bois d'Ascèse and Cuir Velours, Naomi Goodsir ( site ) presented her third fragrance: Or du Serail . I've worn it yesterday with great pleasure, I recognized the same search for "texture" that characterizes her first two. Her vision of what a scent is, evidently includes strong tactile impact, and Or du Serail makes no difference: it reminded me a of silken velvet in a golden shade . Tobacco and sage (which gives hints of leather /tobacco ), mate (dry, aromatic, slightly tobacco), dried fruits (such as dates) and an amber accord make it a contemporary fragrance, sultry, smiling, rich, liqueur-y,  almost sticky-ripe, yet not "too much". A gourmand scent but of an adult kind, on the edge of sophistication . The perfume was composed by Bertrand Duchaufour and when I heard this I was surprised because, in all its glory , does not bear  Bertrand usual "hand" or signature. Naomi told me that Bertrand has endeavored a great deal to understan

Esxence 2014 report 1: MariaLx Aramesh and Mogadess

Immagine
At Esxence MariaLx  ( website ) presented a new couple of fragrances: "Aramesh" and "Mogadess". After telling us the way she (ie MariaLux) loves -that is Deeply, Madly, Truly, the brand now tells us how she dies. The exploration of opposites Love/Death - Eros/Thanatos isn't exactly new stuff but... well, it's a pretty cool topic to be treated in a line of perfumes, isn't it? If the first three are vibrant, the new ones are reflexive. Mogadess tells what happens to the body when it dies, that is the descent into Mother Earth's womb, and is played around a spicy note of cinnamon. I  have yet to discover the evolution so for now I stop here. I wore  Aramesh instead, all day. It's characterized by a violet/orris/licorice accord that is gentle and quite powdery. You'd  expect it to last only seconds,  and instead it remains very present on the skin for hours and hours, with a woody/musky, very seductive drydown. It tells what happens to the

Tomorrow, the sixth edition of Esxence ( site ) will open at the beautiful location of Milan Triennale (Viale Alemagna 6). Here's my list of things I'd like to sniff:

Esxence 2014: la mia lista

Immagine

The three fragrances of the "sanguines/bloody" line are dedicated to three fine wines, pyramids feature fascinating notes of liqueurs: Champagne (Dom Rose), Porto (Bello Rabelo) and Burgundy (Bloody Wood).

Immagine
One of the most exciting new brands I had met last year was " Les Liquides Imaginaires ", created by designer Philippe Di Meo with the collaboration of David Frossard (founder of  Differentes Latitudes). Rarely I'm attracted by brands showing a stress on the visual aspect of the product  since more than once I didn't find the same quality inside the bottles, so generally I explore these later, when I finish my exploration of all the others. Prejudices? Yes, and often I'm right.  But this is not the case. The six fragrances offered by "Les Liquides Imaginaires" are divided into two lines: " Eaux delà " and " Eaux sanguines " in a game of words that identifies the first three as "sacred" and the second three as "worldly".

Uermì: a line of clothes and scents (2/2)

( quest post inizia qui )  AB Cashmere (by Jean Jacques) features a cool, sophisticated incense (far away from any idea of church) in which jasmine and osmanthus are immersed. The accord starts fresh and delicately flowery like a breeze ruffling the mirror surface of a lake, and then develops a fruity undertone (osmanthus) and a slightly animal/leather one (indole, present in both), making it a more complex and interesting scent than it seems at first sniff. NO Suede is the most outspoken of the line: saffron, leather and incense are a trio which seduces immediately. The suede comes off clear, with a soft, comfortable feeling reminiscent of an Harley rider's jacket (the rider's dedicated to fine perfumery, of course!). A velvety, liqueur-y scent, slightly gourmand, which smells expensive (saffron) and suggests Harley rides to distant lands.

Uermì: a line of clothes and scents (1/2)

Immagine
The idea behind this new Italian niche line named " Uermì " is to combine fashion and fragrances (namely, the owner's two passions). In fact, the olfactive interpretation of fabric is not a brand new concept: google any type of fabric (Silk, Cashmere, Tweed, Suede, Organza, Linen, Chiffon) and you'll see dozens scents both new and vintage bearing these names, which means the idea is good.
