Bergamotto e Benzoino

I tre profumi MariaLux esplorano tre emozioni legate al tema dell’amore: Madly, cioè “pazzamente”  (“Oh, lover, make me yours again”), Deeply,  cioè profondamente (“Pain & pleasure, faith & fear”) e Truly, cioè fedelmente (I will wait for you 1000 years”). E siccome l’amore, con la sua forza travolgente riesce a tirare fuori contemporaneamente il meglio e il peggio dalle persone, ecco che nessuno dei tre è gentile e sereno, lineare, ma tutti esprimono una frizione tra l’ideale e il reale, tra note a volte armoniose e spesso dissonanti, in certi tratti carezzevoli ed in altri brutali. Questi profumi sono contraddizioni da indossare . Pur piacevoli e indossabili tutti e tre sia su pelle maschile che femminile, esprimono un concetto dell’amore niente affatto scontato, affrontato in un modo che ad Alessandro evidentemente è congeniale, e cioè senza smancerie sentimentali. Calypso. E’ il nome della bellissima ninfa figlia di Atlante, che nell’Odissea amò Ulisse e lo tenne con sé sulla sua isola per sette anni, fino a che Zeus non inviò Ermes per convincerla a lasciarlo ripartire verso Itaca. Un nome adatto ad un profumo che mi è piaciuto subito; sostanzialmente si tratta di uno chypre reso appena più vivace e luminoso . Infatti, al posto del bergamotto degli chypre più classici qui troviamo del mandarino, e il muschio di quercia -che non si può usare quasi più-  ha lasciato il posto ad una nota ambrata meno notturna e turbolenta, ma certo più carezzevole.

Calypso. It 's the name of the beautiful nymph, daughter of God Atlas who, in the Odyssey,  loves Ulysses and keeps him on her island for seven years, until Zeus sends Hermes to convince her to allow Ulysses to leave the island for Ithaca. A most appropriate name for a perfume I liked immediately; essentially it’s a chypre rendered in a more lively and bright way . Instead of bergamot (a classic chypre note ) here there’s mandarin; and oakmoss a quite nocturnal and turbulent note that now is hardly used, gives way to a much more soothing amber note.

Come ultimo blind test abbiamo scelto la fragranza meno conosciuta del marchio francese Reminiscence: “ 2000 Ans d’Amour ”. Nei negozi si fa fatica a reperirla perché raramente la tengono e anche su internet non si trova facilmente. Chissà perché, visto che i profumi giocati sulla danza tra una sensazione intensamente legnosa (che può essere patchouli, oud, sandalo o legno di cedro) e un cuore fiorito (rosa gelsomino, fiori d’arancio ecc) sono stati le vere star di questi ultimi due anni. Tutti i marchi e i creatori vi si sono cimentati e anche Reminiscence, ma con 10 anni di anticipo (questo profumo è uscito nel 2000). Un gioiellino di eleganza ed equilibrio, luminoso, avvolgente, che passò quasi inosservato.

As the fourth and final blind test we chose Reminiscence ’s the lesser-known perfume: " 2000 Ans d'Amour ." In the shops it’s hard to find and even on the internet it’s not easy to find. I don’t understand why, since scents playing between an intensely woody feeling (which can be patchouli, oud, sandalwood or cedar) and a floral heart (rose, mainly etc) have been starring in these last two years. Almost every brand has launched a similar perfume, but… Reminiscence did it 10 years in advance (this perfume was released in 2000).

“… Mughetto in un letto di muschio, subito dopo una pioggia gentile di primavera …" Sono le parole con cui Andy Tauer , il creatore di questa fragranza, descrive il profumo “ Carillon pour un Ange ”, creato quest’anno per Luckyscent ed in vendita esclusivamente lì. Quando Andy me ne ha dato un flacone, qualche mese fa, gli avevo detto che lo avrei usato per qualcosa di speciale! ;-)

“… lily of the valley in their mossy bed, after a gentle spring rain …” this is how Andy Tauer describes his new perfume " Carillon pour un Ange ," created this year for Luckyscent and sold exclusively there. When Andy gave me a bottle, a few months ago, I told him I would use it for something special! ;-) This perfume is a work of reconstruction of lilies of the valley and lilacs -both providing no natural oil-, enriched with beautiful natural notes of jasmine (indolic and decaying), rose and ylang ylang (green and rough), oakmoss for the "salty" and disturbing feeling, a hint of leather joined by ambergris and a touch of wood .

La numero 2 è una fragranza “di nicchia”: Iroaz, del marchio bretone “Lostmarc’h ”. L’idea di Antoine Vuillermet, creatore del marchio, era quella di ricreare una rosa che fiorisce in riva all’Oceano, su una spiaggia “alla fine del mondo”.  Però, pochi di voi (tranne michiko e alberto, marco ne ha trovato un accenno) hanno individuato che tutta la fragranza è costruita intorno a questa protagonista piuttosto ingombrante. Forse la difficoltà d’individuare la Regina dei Fiori nasce dal fatto che qui è trattata in maniera piuttosto insolita, accostata a note ozoniche–marine (che Nebulosa ha colto); ma in ogni caso questo è fondamentalmente un profumo alla rosa .

Fragrance #2 was "niche": Iroaz from the Breton brand Lostmarc'h . The idea of Antoine Vuillermet, creator of the brand, was to create a rose blooming near the ocean, on a beach at the end of the world. However, none of you (except Michiko, Alberto and Marco hinted ot it) identified that the fragrance is built around a quite recognizable and powerful character: rose.  

Per meno di trenta euro, si possono trovare in giro profumi commerciali anche ben fatti. L’autore di questa fragranza è Olivier Cresp , un grande creatore di profumi, un maestro, autore tra gli altri di Angel (1992, T. Mugler), Light Blue (2001, Dolce e Gabbana), Ange ou Demon (2006, Givenchy), Midnight Poison (2007, Christian Dior). Qui ha lavorato (con altri Marie Salamagne e Jacques Cavallier) per Yves Rocher, in una fragranza uscita nel 2009 che si chiama “ So Elixir ”.

Ho ricevuto gli indirizzi di tutti tranne quello di Alberto (se non lo ricevo entro domattina, mi toccherà sostituirlo con quello della "riserva" quindi Alberto, fatti sotto! ). Che ne dite di festeggiare il mese di maggio con un profumo alla rosa? E' vero, la Regina dei Fiori e io non andiamo particolarmente d'accordo, ma.... ci sono eccezioni. Domani (giovedì) e venerdì, ho deciso di indossare un profumo alla rosa. O uno che mi piace (...) o uno che magari non mi fa impazzire, ma lo indosso per ristudiarmelo un pò insieme a voi. Secondo voi cosa dovrei indossare? E voi, avete voglia di viaggiare con me tra le rose e indossare anche voi, per due giorni,  fragranze dominate da questa nota? Sarà che finalmente la primavera è arrivata e il sole si sta scaldando come piace a me, sarà che la pianta di limoni sul terrazzo è tutta in fiore, insomma, evidentemente a mio marito dev'essere venuta voglia di  fiordarancio. E infatti in questi giorni  mi ha svuotato la fialetta-prova di Orange Star (ne avevo parlato qui ), dandomi modo di averla intorno per una settimana e quindi di capirla per bene. La piramide recita mandarino, clementina, fiordarancio, violetta, ambra grigia, vaniglia e patchouli. L'avvio è ricco di sensazioni fruttate di agrumi zuccherini, resi intensi dal fiordarancio: un'avvio euforizzante, così vivace da dare alla testa. Nel cuore percepisco una sensazione speziata (penso possano essere chiodi di garofano), ed una saponosa e pulitissima (aldeidi?). Poi la fragranza prende una morbida piega legnosa-polverosa verso il finale, ore dopo. La durata è davvero eccezionale, tutta la giornata sulla pelle, di più sui vestiti. Anche la proiezione è buona, e

This is the first of a cycle of meetings I organized in Genoa with the Perfumery store Caleri on artistic perfumery. Thursday we’ll start talking about spices: how raw materials are extracted from plants, we’ll smell some essential oils to learn to distinguish the notes and then we’ll trace them out in niche perfumes. Ho una bottiglietta con 5ml di olio essenziale di Bergamotto, e un'altra con del Benzoino (resinoide). Cioè, del Bergamotto e Benzoino. Suona familiare? I own a 5ml-bottle of Bergamot essential oil. And another one is full of Benjoin resinoid. That is, Bergamot and Benjoin. Sounds familiar?
