Bergamotto e Benzoino

Avevo a lungo sentito parlare di questo profumo, creato da Victoire Gobin Daudè, una giovane e talentuosa compositrice francese, attiva solo tra il 2002 e il 2005. Le sue cinque creazioni ( Sous le Buis, Biche dans l'Absinthe, Jardins Ottomans, Nuit au Désert, Sève Exquise ), di cui oggi si trovano rarissimi esemplari, a prezzi proibitivi, sono rimaste leggendarie. Un pò come quando un cantautore giovane realizza uno, due album pieni di poesia e di eccezionale talento e poi muore, lasciando rimpianto ed amarezza per quello che avrebbe potuto essere il suo contributo alla musica, che invece è andato perso. Un pò come Jeff Buckley, insomma. Perchè lei, almeno per ora, non compone più.

I had heard wonders about this fragrance, created by Victoire Gobin Daudè, a talented young French composer, active between 2002 and 2005. Her five creations ( Sous le Buis, Biche dans l'Absinthe, Jardins Ottomans, Nuit au Désert, Sève Exquise ), now very rarely found and at prohibitive prices, are something "legendary". A bit like when a young, talented singer makes one, two albums of truly exceptional beauty and then dies, leaving us regretful for having lost his precious contribution to music. A bit like Jeff Buckley, in fact. Because Victoire, at least for now, is no longer composing.

Poichè le vacanze estive si stanno avvicinando, il titolo dell'incontro sarà " Profumo di vacanze: ylang ylang, cocco, tiarè, ed osmanto ci portano nei luoghi più esotici del mondo ", e per rendere ancora più intrigante il viaggio parleremo anche di ambra grigia e muschi : muschio di quercia e di albero, e muschi sintetici, tra cui i muschi bianchi. Gershwin è un omaggio alla famosa “Rapsodia in Blu” del compositore americano, ed è essenzialmente un agrumato, con olii essenziali (limone, arancio amaro, pompelmo) di primissima qualità, a cui si affianca un incenso molto raffinato, luminoso, con note metalliche e asciutte che si legano bene agli agrumi e che restano a lungo sulla pelle dopo che gli agrumi sono evaporati.

Gershwin is a tribute to the famous "Rhapsody in Blue" by the American composer, and is essentially a citrus scent. Essential oils (lemon, bitter orange, grapefruit) of the highest quality, and they are flanked by a very bright incense with a dry, metallic undertone that binds well citrus and remains on the skin long after that citrus fruits are evaporated.

Qualche mese fa ricevetti un’email in cui Maria Candida Gentile mi chiedeva: “Ma perché non parli mai delle fragranze della mia linea? Non le conosci? Posso mandartene dei samples.  Oppure... forse è perché non ti piacciono?” Io le risposi che non le conoscevo abbastanza bene per scriverne. Per di più, in passato avevo sentito un paio di fragranze che lei aveva composto sotto il brief di un’azienda-cliente, e poiché non mi avevano raccontato niente di speciale, avevo ritenuto che l’autrice non avesse argomenti. Invece mi sbagliavo, probabilmente le ragioni erano da ricercare dall’altra parte, perché quelle che ha composto per sé sono davvero belle, ed esprimono un gusto molto personale, frutto di una sensibilità ed una ricerca stilistica ben percepibili.

Some months ago I received an email from Maria Candida Gentile, who asked me: "You never speak of my line of fragrances: Don’t you know it? In this case can send you samples. Or... maybe it's because you don’t like it?" I answered I didn’t know the scents well enough to write about them. Moreover, in the past I smelt a couple of fragrances she had composed under a client’s brief, and since they were completely uninteresting to me, I assumed the author had no arguments. And I was wrong: the reasons were probably to be found on the other side, because fragrances she made for her personal line are really beautiful, expressing a sound personal taste, the result of a sensitivity and stylistic research that you "feel".

Scusatemi se vi ho fatto aspettare, è stata un settimana intensissima e sono andata un pò lunga senza accorgermene. Ieri sera ho fatto l'estrazione (in maniera artigianale: ho scritto i nomi su dei bigliettini). Quindi rullate i tamburi, perchè vincono una bottiglia di Orange Star: Marcopietro ed Ela! A proposito di rose, nei giorni scorsi la mia amica Prisca mi ha inviato dall’Iran (ed esattamente da  Ghamsar), due generosissime fialette, una con dell’attar di rosa damascena, e l’altra con dell’essenza purissima .

About roses, again. A few days ago my friend Prisca sent me from Iran (and exactly from Ghamsar), two generous vials: one with damascus rose Attar, the other one with pure essence .

... non è che tutte queste rose mi uccideranno? Lo dico per tre buone ragioni: 1 - perchè sono arrivate alcune mail preoccupate e ironiche di amici, che capendo i miei  sforzi mi hanno  presa un pò in  giro  ;-) 2 - perchè si prevedono rose anche per domani: Prisca mi ha mandato dalla Persia qualcosa di esplosivo e non posso esimermi dal raccontarvelo. 3- perchè Andy (Tauer) mi ha dato una fialetta con la fragranza alla rosa su cui sta lavorando e quindi perchè non provarla proprio in questi giorni?
