Bergamotto e Benzoino

Una delle fragranze che più mi avevano colpita durante Esxence, è Aedes de Venustas, la fragranza creata per l'omonimo store americano. Dopo anni dedicati a proporre al pubblico di New York profumi artistici e non convenzionali, i proprietari hanno deciso di fare un passo avanti, e crearne uno per il proprio marchio, e la scelta, non poteva che cadere su Bertrand Duchaufour. Sì perchè in questo momento Bertrand, attraverso collaborazioni con marchi diversissimi tra loro (L'Artisan Parfumeur, Acqua di Parma,  Neela Vermeire, Aedes, ecc), sta proponendo fragranze eccezionali, evocative, vibranti... quanto di meglio c'è in giro;  i suoi lanci sono attesi -e spesso, amati al primo sniffo- perchè hanno sempre qualcosa di originale da dire, un'interpretazione insolita, o il taglio che non ti aspetti. One of the launches that most struck me during Esxence exhibition is Aedes de Venustas, a fragrance created for the U.S. Based perfumery store bearing the same name. After years dedicated to offering the New York public artistic and unconventional perfumes, the owners decided to take a step further, creating a composition for their own brand, and involved Bertrand Duchaufour in the project. Through collaborations with such diverse brands (L'Artisan Parfumeur, Acqua di Parma, Neela Vermeire, Aedes, etc.), Bertrand is proposing consistently exceptional fragrances, among the best things you can smell around; challenging, vibrant, unexpected, and often, loved first sniff. Dal 20 al 27 Maggio a Bologna si svolge l'edizione 2012 di " Smell - Il festival dell'Olfatto ".  Tra gli ospiti in programma vi segnalo Michael Roudnitska, figlio del grande Edward, compositore lui stesso, che parlerà dell'olfatto nelle pratiche sciamaniche dei nativi americani. Among the speakers invited to the event, Michael Roudnitska will give a lecture on olfaction in shamanic rituals of native Americans. The program of the events is posted on Smell website !

Sapevo che il chinotto è un agrume bellissimo, intensamente dorato, usato nei giardini soprattutto a scopo ornamentale per i suoi fiori copiosi e profumatissimi. Sapevo che a Savona la storia del chinotto è importante, perchè i maestri canditori savonesi avevano saputo trovare un modo per trasformarne i frutti -troppo amari per consumarli freschi- in prelibatezze da gustare a tavola, e che per tutto l'800 e inizio '900, i chinotti canditi di Savona erano ricercati ed apprezzati in tutta Europa. Ma oltre che da mangiare, il Chinotto si beve anche: vi suggerisco quello di Lurisia ( sito qui ), presidio Slow Food dal gusto aromatico/tonificante, una delizia che in casa mia c'è sempre, visto che mio marito ne va matto.

Chinotto, a kind of bitter orange, is a beautiful, intensely golden citrus fruit, especially used in gardens as an ornamental plant, due to its fragrant and abundant flowers. I knew the history of Chinotto in the city of Savona is important, because the “canditori” (confiteurs) had been able to find a way to transform its extremely bitter fruits into delicacies to be enjoyed at the table, which were appreciated throughout Europe throughout the '800 and beginning of' 900. But in addition to eating it, Chinotto may be enjoyed a drink, characterized by an aromatic, energizing taste. I suggest you to try the one by Lurisia (leftside pic, website here ): I always keep a couple of bottles home, as my husband is very fond of it.

Domani,  martedì 17 aprile dalle 18  avrà luogo la sesta  Degustazione Olfattiva con Aperitivo al Caffè Cambi  (Vico Falamonica, Genova). Esploreremo le misteriose, sensuali materie prime -sia naturali che sintetiche- che compongono la sontuosa famiglia degli  Orientali/Ambrati,  e ne studieremo la storia  a partire dai capistipite Emeraude (Coty), Habanita (Molinard) e Shalimar (Guerlain) passando attraverso qualche best-seller contemporaneo, per finire sulle opere della profumeria artistica che tanto ci emozionano.  Non vedo l'ora di vedervi e di immergermi con voi tra i migliori orientali della storia!

Ci sono periodi in cui tutto sembra girare per il verso sbagliato. Giorni, settimane, addirittura mesi, in cui non stai bene a causa di malattie (a volte basta una semplice influenza), allergie, insonnia, preoccupazioni per il lavoro e per le persone che ami, che ti rallentano, fiaccano le tue energie, non ti permettono di dedicarti serenamente alla tua vita normale e ai tuoi progetti. Ti senti fuori sincrono rispetto al resto del mondo: tutti sembrano sfarfalleggiare sorridenti tra mille impegni, mentre tu arranchi come una bestia solo per fare il minimo indispensabile. Poi ti guardi allo specchio e ti vedi magra, patita, con delle occhiaie enormi che sembrano riassumere tutte le occhiaie del mondo.  Il buonumore cade ai minimi storici, e ti viene paura che sarà sempre così. E invece, poi, chissà come, un giorno ti svegli e capisci che ne stai uscendo.

There are times when everything seem to choose the wrong turn. Days, weeks, even months, in which you're far from ok, since diseases (sometimes just a simple flu), allergies, insomnia, worries about the job and the people you love slow you down, sap your energy, keep you from dedicating serenely to your everyday life and projects. You seem to plod, you feel out of sync with the rest of the world. You look in the mirror and see yourself thin, suffered, you've never seen such huge dark circles around your eyes before. Your humor falls to historic lows, and you're afraid of not being able to get out from there. But then, somehow, it happens.
