I MIEI LIBRI/MY BOOKS

October 2020 has been published my third book: "The Great Italian Perfumery Handbook". It is available for purchase worldwide, and also at the publisher's online shop (here) and online platforms (amazon etc)
it is The first publication dedicated exclusively to the theme of Italian perfumery. A real manual, divided into three parts, which offers a sum of the perfumes produced in Italy, reviewing the great brands that have made the Italian olfactory taste known all over the world, through wonderful essences, and sophisticated design. The Italian perfume history is followed by an anthology of 100 famous perfumes - selected for the significance of their characteristics - accompanied by extensive descriptive cards and divided for decades starting from the seventies, which allow you to follow the evolution of contemporary perfumery. A chapter is then dedicated to the perfume production chain, told through the words of some excellent protagonists. The volume closes with the apparatuses: research that reports the approximately 7000 fragrances produced in Italy in the last fifty years, with an indication of the manufacturer, the genre and the year, and a table that visually illustrates the 100 fragrances, divided into families. their temporal positioning.

"Orientale o legnoso? Come capire a quale famiglia olfattiva appartiene?"

This is the cover of my book "The Perfume Language", available for purchase on Amazon sites worldwide (link to amazon.com here).

"
What is important to evaluate, when I smell a perfume?"; "How can I recognize the raw materials?"; "Chypre, Oriental or Woody? How can I understand which olfactory family it belongs to?"; "How do I recognize a beautiful perfume?"

Perfume is an extraordinarily powerful means of expression: the voice of a well-crafted fragrance can take your breath away, transport you back in time, evoke dreams, visions, and desires. But decoding its language may be tricky. Understanding the perfume language will help you make wiser purchase choices, but also to find your perfect match. Or many possible matches, according to your evolving tastes. “The Perfume Language” is a pleasantly informative and non-technical manual leading the reader on an exploration journey among natural and synthetic raw materials, accords, pyramids, structures, distribution, and marketing dynamics. "The Perfume Language” allows the reader to clarify codes, concepts, and terms often used incorrectly. It contains a rich bibliography/webliography, and offers several exploration itineraries among the fragrances currently present in stores, with the aim of helping the reader to select what to wear with the competence of a real expert. Marika Vecchiattini is a technically trained consultant, an author, and a blogger: her perfume blog “Bergamotto e Benzoino” (bilingual: Eng/Ita) was opened in 2006.

Above you see the cover of the reprint of my book,  formerly entitled "L'Arte del Profumo/The Art of Perfume", published by Castelvecchi (website), which now is entitled "The Secret Language of Perfume", since contents have been up-to-dated and new ones have been added. Here a few words to explain how the book is conceived. "Scents may be objects of exchange, union and sharing with no barriers of sex, age, race, and culture: I think they're a kind of invisible bridge linking people together. Moreover, scents arise emotions, memories, and feelings and can be powerful communication channels, as well as cultural objects, and even, in some cases, real masterpieces. This manual is designed to accompany the reader -even the one who doesn't know anything about perfumes- to learn and educate a little his/her sense of smell with tips, ideas, and scented paths.  In the book, there's no "Perfumery History" chapter, but there's plenty of references to literature, the history of perfume, and its use in different periods, societies, and cultures.  In the end, this book is my way to contribute to the return of perfume into the "artistic" realm it had been inhabiting for centuries. "
