Italian fragrances arouse curiosity. A lot. In the list of the twenty most Googled perfumes around the world appeared on Perfumer & Flavorist, there are four Italian perfumes: Versace Eros holds the second placeamong the top ten women perfumes, while Gucci Bamboo holds the tenth place. Among the perfumes for him, Versace Pour Homme is in fifth place, and Prada l'Homme in tenth. Le fragranze italiane scatenano curiosità. Molta.  Nella lista dei venti profumi più ricercati su Google in tutto il mondo (anno 2020) compaiono ben quattro profumi italiani: tra i primi dieci femminili si distingue Versace Eros , al secondo posto dopo Esteè (Estèe Lauder). Anche Gucci Bamboo entra nella lista dei primi dieci femminili più cercati su Google, al decimo posto.  Tra i maschili, Versace Pour Homme è al quinto posto, e Prada l'Homme al decimo. Evviva la Profumeria Italiana!   Yesterday I received these Tuberose bulbs, a flower I love so much to see and -above all- to smell. Tuberose originates in South America, pre-Columbian peoples used to cultivate it both for its healing properties (it was said to ease the fatigue of travelers) and for gastronomic purposes: its intensely sweet scent was the ideal complement to the chocolate drink they used to drink. During the sixteenth century, the Spanish brought the plant to Europe and began its cultivation. The European girls, however, were not allowed to approach this flower precisely because of its thick, sweet, inviting, narcotic scent, which was said to trigger "illicit" thoughts that would lead them to perdition. Ieri ho ricevuto questi bulbi di Tuberosa, un fiore che io adoro sia per la sua bellezza che per il suo profumo. La tuberosa è originaria del Sudamerica, era particolarmente amata dai popoli precolombiani, che la coltivavano sia per le sue proprietà curative (si diceva che attenuasse la fatica dei viaggiatori) che per fini gastronomici: il suo profumo intenso e dolce rendeva speciale la bevanda al cioccolato che consumavano spesso.  Nel corso del Cinquecento gli spagnoli portarono la pianta in Europa ed iniziarono la sua coltivazione. Le fanciulle europee però, non avevano il permesso di avvicinarsi a questo fiore proprio a causa del suo profumo dolciastro, invitante, narcotico, che si diceva avrebbe scatenato in loro pensieri “illeciti” che le avrebbero condotte alla perdizione.   I have always loved the scent of Playdoh.  Opening the yellow jar already delights me from a tactile point of view (the dough is soft enough for the fingers to sink into it) but the real pleasure is olfactory: the buttery, chewy, fresh and talc-like smell is unmistakable, I've been carrying it with me since childhood.  Well, I just discovered that eight new "adult" fragrances are now available. A warm and nutty "Overpriced Latte", "Spa Day" with fresh and floral notes, "Mom Jeans" with notes of clean laundry (white musks, I dare say), "Lord of the lawn" with cut grass notes, "Grill King" with smoky, barbecue notes and "Dad Sneakers"smelling of new rubber shoes. I will definitely try them, maybe they will be fantastic ... in any case, a normally fragranced yellow jar will always be home with me.

  Io, il profumo del Playdoh lo adoro da sempre (si chiama Didò, qui da noi).  Aprire il barattolino giallo mi delizia già dal punto di vista tattile (la pasta è morbida quel tanto che basta che le dita ci affondano da sole) ma la vera goduria è quella olfattiva: l'odore burroso, gommoso, fresco e talcatino è inconfondibile, me lo porto dietro fin dall'infanzia.  Ebbene, ho scoperto che da oggi sono disponibili otto nuove profumazioni "da "adulti. "Overpriced Latte", caldo e noccioloso, "Spa Day" con note fresche e fiorite, "Mom Jeans" con note di biancheria pulita (immagino un muschio bianco), "Lord of the lawn" con note di erba tagliata, "Grill King" con note affumicate di barbecue e "Dad Sneakers", con note di gomma nuova.  Li proverò senz'altro, magari saranno fantastici... in ogni caso, un barattolino giallo con l'odore normale, a casa mia, ci sarà sempre.

Some time ago, Meo and a group of friends took a trip to India.  A journey, indeed.   One of a life-changing kind. Which reposition priorities and force you to look for meanings beyond words.   On his return, Meo composes Varanasi, the final stage of a journey that has led him to touch very deep inner chords.   The animal notes and ambrette seeds stand out suggesting warmth, skin comfort, and the smell of humanity.  Sweet and a tad  dirty, rich in every human strength and weakness.   Then the spices, which have nothing gastronomic at all, but suggest an Elsewhere that is within each of us.   Then incense and flowers: rose and jasmine.   The yin and the yang, night and day, life and death in an eternal dance. Meo e un gruppo di amici fanno un viaggio in India. Anzi, un Viaggio. Di quelli che ti cambiano la vita. Che riposizionano le priorità e ti costringono a cercare significati oltre le parole. Al ritorno, Meo compone Varanasi, la tappa finale di un percorso che lo ha portato a toccare corde interiori molto profonde.  Le note animali e i semi d'ambretta spiccano su tutte le altre: calore, conforto della pelle, odore di umanità. Caldo, sporco, carico di tutte le umane grandezze e debolezze.  Poi le spezie, che non hanno nulla di gastronomico, ma suggeriscono un Altrove che è dentro ognuno di noi.  Poi l'incenso e i fiori: rosa e gelsomino. Lo yin e lo yang, notte e giorno, vita e morte.  Per me è fin troppo emozionante per riuscire a portarlo così, tra autobus, palestra ed ufficio. Richiede silenzio, presenza, richiede di essere ascoltato. E ha ragione: l'uomo che torna a casa non è mai lo stesso che ha iniziato il Viaggio.
