Digitalis and Mandrake (By David Apel and Carlos J Vinals for Les Potions Fatales)

Les Potions Fatales (website here ) is the name of a new line of fragrances inspired by plants such as datura, digitalis, mandrake, poppy, belladonna, hemlock... plants renowned for their healing, energizing, even aphrodisiac powers that, when used in excessive amounts, become lethal .  For centuries they have been used to ignite passion, to enhance energy, to cure diseases, but also to take out "cleanly" politicians, priests, noblemen, husbands and wives... In the end, the problem is always the amount you take, never the raw material itself, right? Even the sun kills you, if you get too much!  These plants, with their life/death duality, might be here to teach us sobriety, or the use without abuse (a much-needed lesson, isn't?) The idea of creating perfumes inspired by "lethal" plants is not completely new (think of " Datura Noir " by Serge Lutens, or Goutal's " Mandragore "), but it had never been used as inspiration for an

Or+Ange (Cecile Zarokian per Uermì, 2016) 2/2

Po

New from Uermì: Or+Ange (by Cecile Zarokian) 2/2

Or + Ange by Uermì is a scent I liked a lot. It's a strangely warm and slightly gourmand citrus fragrance, quite intriguing and not easily labelled , that I wore with curiosity. I spray it, and cannot help but keep smelling it, without understanding what kind of creature this was. A modern Cologne? A particularly intense citrusy fragrance? A musky scent with citrus notes? A gourmand scent with tons of musks? Boh! In any case, as soon as you wear it, you feel something simple and reassuring, almost childish, which deceives you making you think you understood it... after one hour, you realize there's a strong idea behind this scent, and a lot more happening in it. In addition to the natural feel of citrus fruits and of bright musks, Or+Ange festures a plasticized quality, artificial as a rubber doll, which takes the idea of classical Cologne and projects it to a different direction , uneasy to classify. Could it be a cyberspace citrus ? You say no? Well

New from Uermì: Or+Ange by Cecile Zarokian

Immagine
For their " Uermì " line, the duo of founders, Aurora-Palmiro had asked talented Cécile Zarokian a warm and modern citrusy fragrance. Not a classic Cologne, all clean and sparkling freshness without any depth, but a real citrus scent with a roundness, an immediately perceptible modernity . And above all, different from all the others. " Do you know how difficult it is to transfer an emotion? " - Aurora asks me during a cocktail party, at last edition of Pitti Fragranze - " I am aware of being a demanding customer who asks much to those who make my Uermì scents, but I have to say nobody ever came up with the exact scent I had in mind when I gave the brief. Yet I work with the brightest and most creative authors around! " How do you explain this? " Well, the fact is that you can force yourself to pass clearly the idea you have in mind, and on the other hand, the composers will do their best to get inside your vision and make it into a scent

New: YVRA1958 Cologne

Immagine
Sheer pleasure. I can not think of a better way to describe Yvra1958 Cologne. Sheer pleasure. Which, talking about a Cologne, it is not such an obvious definition. Yvo Van Altena Rentgeren (ie Yvra, website here ) is a Dutch journalist in his fifties; educated, brilliant and naturally charming. I met him during last Pitti Fragranze and we chatted a bit. He told me how passion for perfume has transformed him into a brand owner, and how difficult and fun it has been creating his first scent, the YVRA1958 Cologne. Lemon, neroli, petit grain, pepper, cardamom, ginger, perhaps an aromatic note, patchouli, cedarwood, tonka bean and white musks build a Cologne at the same time classical (citrus fruits and orange blossom) and modern (the musks). Cold spices add charisma, woods bring elegance and tonka bean gives a sophisticated and eccentric touch (as eccentric a Cologne can be). Cardamom is the pivot around which the scent is built: its dry and bright freshness binds bitter ci

Pastelli a cera - la mia Madeleine

Immagine

Wax crayons - my Madeleine

Immagine
Yesterday I found at home a box of 24 wax crayons I knew nothing of; so I opened it and startedt sorting them out to watch the colors, and while I was handling them, the typical smell spread in the room and... I got so moved I nearly cried.  I'm not very familiar with drawing so I've never used crayons again from primary school or so . That very peculiar smell materialized a world of sensations and emotions which were locked somewhere inside of me; I was a child again, for a moment. It's been so nice!  I've been cuddling this thing all day.   Has   something similar  ever happened to you?
