Bergamotto e Benzoino

Ad inizio dicembre, RUDIS , il profumo che Nobile 1942 ( sito ) ha creato insieme al compositore Italiano Antonio Alessandria, ha vinto il prestigioso premio FIFI AWARD 2015 in Russia. E' una delle occasioni in cui il valore della profumeria italiana viene sottolineato, e quindi mi fa tanto, tanto piacere condividere questa notizia con voi. At the beginning of December, RUDIS, by Antonio Alessandria for Nobile 1942 ( website ) has won the FIFI Award 2015 in Russia. This is another occasion to give the italian perfumery and its talents the attention they deserve, so I'm happy to share this news with you. Here's the video  presented in Russia.

Because it is not easy to talk about smells, to explain to others what odors mean for us. And when someone tries and succeeds, I recognize the power of that thing, that thing you feel inside and you can not oppose, driving you to run after a stranger to ask what perfume he's/she's wearing perfume, pushing you to go out in the rain just to smell the wet asphalt, making you seek hyacinths of all possible colors, because each color corresponds to a differen

(this post starts here ) The three fragrances have a strong impact and are quite intense, with a life that surprised me : hours and hours on skin, even days on clothes! Naturals contained in them accent and offer interesting shades, but are the synthetics the ones which provide stability to the compositions over the hours, which are quite linear throughout their duration. Bass is a beautiful and very challenging aromatic dominated by mastic, combined with incense, cedarwood and oakmoss, plus a hint of tea (that special tea with leathery and smoky notes, Lapsang Suchong type); I also detect IBQ (but maybe it is the mastic/leather/tea accord, that gives that "smoked leather" effect). The result is fascinating, with a very strong personality, intense, dark, bitter, cold, vaguely ominous and thus irresistible . I've worn it with true joy, this is an exciting scent. These days I could try three fragrances of the " Ephemera " project: Bass, Noise and Drone (these are the three names) are pleasant and interesting scents, but what captured me was the combination of sound, video and scent. The overall project is curated by Polish collective " Unsound ", which explores an idea of kinesthetic art, which is able to involve more senses. Video artist Marcel Weber has authored the three videos that make up the visual part of the project, while the three pieces of music that go with the videos have three different authors: Steve Goodman aka Kode9 (Bass), Ben Frost (Noise) and Tim Hecker (Drone). The olfactory part is created by by Geza Schon (Escentric Molecules, Ormonde Jayne, Biehl's etc).  The idea is to smell each fragrance while watching -and listening with headphones- the video clips.

With these two additions, Ineke's collection ( website here ) reaches the letter I. In fact the names of her perfumes begin with a subsequent letter of the alphabet: A for " After my own heart " (a fresh, rosy floral ethereal and quite romantic), B for " Balmy days and Sundays " (one of my favorites, a floral green scent, delicate, outdoors-y and spring-evoking), C for " Chemical bonding " (a clean, bright white musks bouquet introduced by a crisp citrus accord) and so on until “ Hothouse Flower ”, one of the most elegant and convincing gardenia scents around. This was until a couple of months ago, because at Pitti Fragranze Ineke presented J and I: " Jack + Jackie " and " Idyllwild ".  Idyllwild is named after a place in California rich in forests and wilderness loved by many Californians. To evoke its environment Ineke chose an aromatic accord (rhubarb, sage, pine needles) with wood accents (cypress and nagarmotha). Dry

(l'articolo su MiN New York inizia qui )  Long board Un profumo dalla spinta energetica fortissima , un omaggio alle giornate estive passate sulla tavola da surf; sale marino sulla pelle nuda, sabbia calda, crema solare al profumo di cocco . Il giallo accecante del sole è evocato dalle note frizzanti di cardamomo e fiordarancio, l'oceano dalle note ozoniche, il cocco e la vaniglia evocano le risate, la leggerezza spensierata; chiudono le note di vetiver ed ambra, che danno sostegno a spessore tutta la composizione. Durante la scorsa edizione di Pitti Immagine Fragranze mi ero innamorata di un nuovo marchio americano: MiN New York (sito qui ) .  Avevo scambiato quattro chiacchiere con Mindy Yang, gentilissima fondatrice della boutique che porta lo stesso nome . Mindy, innamorata della profumeria “vera”, ha portato nel suo negozio alcuni tra i migliori marchi internazionali (e tra gli italiani segnalo BOIS 1920, Laboratorio Olfattivo, Nobile 1942, Odori, Xerjoff, Dr. Vranjes) oltre a prodotti per l'ambiente, per viso, corpo e capelli, per la rasatura, oltre a delizie per il palato come cioccolato e caramelle “firmate”. Insomma, è uno di quei negozi dove si entra e si vorrebbe acquistare tutto.  Un paio di anni fa ha deciso di commissionare la sua linea con lo stesso nome: MiN New York. Nascono così 11 fragranze straordinarie, vere polaroid scattate in luoghi e situazioni capaci di suscitare emozioni e ricordi. During the last edition of Pitti Immagine Fragrances I fell in love with a new American brand: MiN New York ( website here )  .  I had a friendly chat with Mindy Yang, the exquisite founder of the boutique with the same name Mindy, a true perfume lover who brought to her store the best international perfume brands (and among Italians there are BOIS 1920, Laboratorio Olfattivo, Nobile 1942, Odori, Xerjoff, Dr. Vranjes) together with other cosmetic items for the face, body and hair, for shaving, as well as  sophisticate chocolates and candies. In short, one of those stores where you would like buying everything.  A couple of years ago she decided to start her line named MiN New York, and asked help to compose   these are 11 extraordinary fragrances, true polaroid pics taken in places and situations that arise emotions and memories. Questo post inizia qui Delle quattro nuove fragranze, Oro 1920 è la più complessa e sfaccettata, tutta giocata sui toni secchi, amari, quasi mistici del cuoio. Apre con un accordo freddo e affumicato di zenzero, incenso ed abete, a cui si lega un cuore elegante e raffinatissimo di osmanto, iris, rosa di maggio, legno di guaiaco ed opoponax. Nel fondo, tabacco, cera d'api, benzoino e vaniglia ne amplificano la profondità ombrosa e magica . This post starts here Oro 1920 is the most complex and multi-faceted of the four new releases; a dry, bitter, almost mystical leather note . It opens with a cool and smoky accord of ginger, incense and fir, which binds a refined and elegant heart of osmanthus, orris, May rose, guaiacwood and opoponax. Tobacco, beeswax, benzoin and vanilla amplify the shadowy, magical depths of this scent. Verde di Mare is an ozonic scent, dry and bitter with green (lily-of-the-valley) and salty hues (Calone and other ozonic musks). This is one of those fragrances which, even if being not particularly challenging, are successful because they're linear, simple, clean, very modern, wearable on any occasion. Lavanda 1920 is a dry and poudree lavender scent , elegant, focusing on the marriage of lavender essential oil and the absolute (an expensive note, flowery with a touch of warm hay, very charming). BOIS 1920 (BOttega Italiana dello Spigo - sito QUI ) è un marchio italiano presente sul mercato della profumeria artistica da quasi 10 anni ed il suo fondatore, Enzo Galardi, è anche il creatore dei profumi.  La linea propone ormai 25 fragranze, tutte composte con gusto ed eleganza, tanto  che alcune di queste stanno diventando dei piccoli classici.  Sushi Imperiale ad esempio è un un gourmand salato particolarissimo ed unico nel suo genere, Sutra Ylang è un ylang ylang di rara raffinatezza, Real Patchouly è un bel patchouli classico e vigoroso, Agrumi di Sicilia una colonia secca ed amara, elegante e moderna.  Ma se ne avete la possibilità, vi consiglierei di provarli tutti, perchè in un mercato “artistico” in cui molti nuovi marchi gridano per farsi sentire, i profumi BOIS 1920 emanano un buongusto ed una compostezza davvero rari e gratificanti.

  Bois 1920 (Bottega Italiana dello Spigo -  Italian Aspic Atelier- website here ) is an Italian perfumery brand estabilished in the niche market almost 10 years ago. Its founder, Enzo Galardi, is also the creator of all the perfumes.  The line now offers 25 fragrances, all made with taste and elegance, some of which are becoming small classics: Sushi Imperiale for example is a very unique salty gourmand, Sutra Ylang features a ylang ylang note of rare sophistication, Real Patchouly is a nice classic, lively patchouli Agrumi di Sicilia is a dry and bitter Cologne, very elegant and modern.  But if you have the chance, I would advise you to try them all, because in the contemporary "artistic" market, where many new brands shout out loud to be heard, BOIS 1920 features a good taste and a composure rare to find and refreshing.

Terralba (by Delphine Thierry) tells that moment when you left the car in the road, several meters back, and you've gone into the pine forest, following a small path of stones and twigs that you know will get you in front of the sea, with its intense blue. But the sea is only a pretext, in this perfume you don't really perceive it at all; no splashing wave refresh the air because all you perceive are the scents  around you: bitter, resinous, intense, tipycally mediterranean, melting into each other, releasing all their sensual and almost tactile charm (sage, citrus, myrtle, thyme, curry leaves, helycrisum, juniper, cypress, cedarwood). This is a perfume that gives the skin thrills: it's wild, very natural, yet at the same time is elegant and well structured, harmoniously sewed as you would expect from a modern perfume .

  Masque Milano (English website here ) is a new Italian brand, founded by two friends with brave characters, motivated, spirited and with a fantastic taste for fragrances. To give life to their line they selected composers already established but yet not too famous , and commissioned them a collection of "scenes" of life or significant moments, places visited, friendship, love, moods, recurring dreams ... Each fragrance in Masque Milano collection was born to share each of these scenes. In this way, the five fragrances are consistent with each other, they form a whole ensemble with a strong vision behind, that you feel strongly in each perfume.  I loved the scents themselves, and the idea of Italy they carry: not only they contain our best raw materials (helichrysum, bergamot, jasmine, lavender, tobacco etc), but their bouquets are open and exuberant, and at the same time absolutely elegant , that sort of effortless, relaxed elegance that bears no ostentation. (questo articolo arriva da qui ) Luci ed Ombre (composto da Meo Fusciuni) è un profumo che esplora la terra di mezzo che separa (o forse congiunge?) la luce e le tenebre, la gioia e la malinconia, il giorno e la notte. Difficile scegliere tra le due opzioni, visto che entrambe esercitano un fascino speciale e ci attirano per motivi differenti... In questo profumo l a luce è rappresentata dalla nota fresca e splendente dell'incenso, e la nota in ombra è interpretata... nuovamente all'incenso , materia sfaccettata e multiforme, che in base a ciò a cui si lega esprime caratteristiche sempre differenti. Immagino che qui, legandosi a tuberosa e zenzero si inondi di luce, mentre accostata a gelsomino e muschio diventi oscura e conturbante. Un lavoro interessante e divertente, e godibile da uomini e donne in ugual misura, è uno di quei profumi che fanno viaggiare la mente.

(questo post inizia qui ) Inizio dalla mia fragranza preferita, l'ultima nata del gruppo, Russian Tea , composta da Julien Rasquinet per evocare una tipica serata moscovita con il samovar lucidissimo e fumante che diffonde l'aroma affumicato del tè nero, misto alle foglie di menta. La piramide è ricca di note che si alternano tra sensazioni di caldo e di freddo, tra luce ed ombra (pepe, tè nero, elicriso, cuoio, betulla e cisto labdano da una parte e menta, magnolia, incenso dall'altra), e queste sensazioni sono perfettamente equilibrate in una composizione intensa, raffinatissima, amara e secca come una frustata sulla pelle,  indossabile sia da uomini (...e che uomini!!!) sia da donne. Ho trovato intriganti i due lievissimi accenti seminascosti: quello amaro/verde (la magnolia) e quello dolce dei biscotti che si servono con il tè (il lampone), che aggiungono complessità e sfumature alla composizione . Oggi vi parlo di Masque Milano (sito qui ), e diversamente dal solito voglio iniziare dai due fondatori, Alessandro e Riccardo, invece che dalle fragranze.  Quando ci siamo incontrati, Alessandro e Riccardo mi hanno conquistata subito: li ho trovati coraggiosi, motivati, pieni di spirito e con le idee chiare su quello che fanno, e soprattutto, con un gusto pazzesco per le fragranze .  Sul loro sito si legge ” Credono nell'importanza di un’attività lavorativa seria, nella gioia di vivere e del trattarsi bene. Sono due sognatori che decidono di dare corpo e forma alle loro emozioni ”.  Con così tante cose in comune potevo non innamorarmi di loro?  Per dar vita alla loro linea hanno selezionato alcuni compositori, già affermati ma non ancora troppo famosi , a cui hanno commissionato una collezione di “scene” di vita, ovvero momenti significativi, luoghi visitati, amicizie, amori, stati d'animo, sogni ricorrenti…  Ogni fragranza della collezione Masque Milano nasce pe

(questo articolo inizia qui )  Brutus, Stercus e Boccanera  invece compongono una trilogia a base di un accordo di legni tra cui forse cipriol, o ebanol o qualcosa di simile, comunque uno degli ingredienti della profumeria a cui Alessandro è più legato (lo ha usato anche nella sua linea Nasomatto, in Blamage, Duro e nella fragranza che ha fatto innamorare di questa nota migliaia di persone: l'imitatissimo Black Afgano. Lì ce n'era una vagonata).  Ognuno di loro associa a quest'accordo particolare qualcosa che lo rende diverso: nocciola/cacao/lievito/patchouli in Boccanera per un risultato morbido, secco, sofisticato, confortevole come un guanto di camoscio. La sensazione "lievito" è davvero intrigante e piuttosto originale, e rende Boccanera una delle fragranze più calde e sensuali che abbia mai indossato e fatto indossare.
