Bergamotto e Benzoino

That is: amber, on amber and about amber. Amber was my first love, the one that introduced me to artistic perfume, through Etro's Ambra and Ambre by Reminiscence. So a fragrance like OR Cashmere by Uer Mì  ( website here ) could only please me, it's everything amber should be: opulent, warm, faceted, dry, spicy, gourmand, absolutely exotic and, together, caressing and reassuring . More than a scent, a self-pampering act of pleasure. It opens with cardamom, cinnamon, thymus and crunchy hazelnut note, which make up a dry, pungent, spicy and outdoorsy top accord. Benjoin, cistus labdanum, grey amber, patchouli, sandalwood and vanilla build up an amber base of great elegance and balance . A mild hint of rum offers a pinch of livelyhood that makes it more modern. Elegant, perfectly executed, straight on the spot, it reminded me of a cat purring on naked skin. Nelle intenzioni di Vero Kern , compositrice svizzera capace di emozionarmi come pochi altri, il suo nuovo profumo  Naja  doveva rappresentare l'archetipo del serpente. Anzi, del Cobra reale. Il Cobra come emissario della Terra, del suo calore, della sua forza primitiva e trascinante, del potere di dare e togliere la vita. Naja come personificazione della saggezza degli sciamani, della loro conoscenza del ciclo delle anime. Naja come le spire che ti avvolgono, l'ipnosi dello sguardo, il buio della tana nascosta. Persino io, che aborro i serpenti, ne sono rimasta affascinata!  Naja -il profumo- mi ha riportato alla mente alcuni grandi classici del passato-molto-passato, accomunati da una nota tabacco di grande morbidezza: Habanita di Molinard, Tabac Blond di Caron, e sopra tutti lo splendido Scandal di Lanvin. Ma anche l' Ambre Antique di Coty, Zibeline di Weil e alcuni vecchi Lentheric . Insomma, il meglio del meglio tra i progenitori dei profumi al tabacco.

In Vero Kern 's intentions (a composer who is able to enchant me as very few others), her new scent  Naja had to represent the archetype of the snake. Of Cobra, to be precise. Il nuovo lavoro di Luca Maffei per Nobile 1942  (sito qui ) mi è piaciuto subito, al primo sniffo. Mi ha incantata la sensazione di freschezza che rimane per ore addosso , e che non è facile far durare così a lungo. Merito di un accordo riuscitissimo tra bergamotto, pepe rosa, zenzero, papiro, elemì ed incenso, ovvero note fresche, luminose, secche, verdi, che lavorano insieme creando un filo metallico che lega testa, cuore e coda e rende la fragranza coerente dall'inizio alla fine . Molto piacevole e ben orchestrato.  Ma il profumo non è tutto lì.  A renderlo più coinvolgente c'è una corrente calda, morbida, voluttuosa composta da curcuma, rosa, patchouli e legno di sandalo che soffiano sotto alla composizione un respiro caldo, esotico, piuttosto sensuale, che serve tanto a far risaltare la freschezza delle altre note, quanto a dare corpo e rotondità a tutta la fragranza. I liked 1001 , Luca Maffei's new work for Nobile 1942 ( website here ) at first sniff. I was charmed by its intense freshness, holding on skin for hours, which is not an easy result to obtain. It is due to a bright, dry, green accord of bergamot, pink pepper, ginger, papyrus, elemì and incense that work together creating a wire binding top, heart and base and making the fragrance subsequent in all its lifetime. Very pleasant and well orchestrated.  But the perfume is not all there.  To make it more engaging a soft, voluptuous undercurrent was introduced , consisting of turmeric, rose, patchouli and sandalwood, melting into each other and blowing a warm, exotic, rather sensual breath, which helps bring out the freshness of the other notes and give body and roundness to the whole fragrance.  I bet it was not easy to introduce all this opposing materials in the same scent without transforming it into a total chaos, but Luca has accomplished this task successfully: the re

Les Potions Fatales (website here ) is the name of a new line of fragrances inspired by plants such as datura, digitalis, mandrake, poppy, belladonna, hemlock... plants renowned for their healing, energizing, even aphrodisiac powers that, when used in excessive amounts, become lethal .  For centuries they have been used to ignite passion, to enhance energy, to cure diseases, but also to take out "cleanly" politicians, priests, noblemen, husbands and wives... In the end, the problem is always the amount you take, never the raw material itself, right? (questo post inizia qui )  Or+Ange di Uermì  mi è piaciuto.  E' uno strano agrumato caldo e leggermente gourmand/fruttato, parecchio intrigante e non facilmente afferrabile, che ho indossato con curiosità. Lo spruzzi e non puoi fare a meno di continuare ad annusarlo, senza capire che genere di creatura hai davanti .  Una colonia moderna?  Un profumo agrumato particolarmente intenso?  Un profumo muschiato con degli agrumi?  Un gourmand con dei muschi?  Boh!  In ogni caso non appena lo indossi ti sembra qualcosa di semplice e rassicurante, quasi infantile, e ti illudi di averlo compreso...  invece dopo una mezz'ora intuisci che c'è un'idea forte, e che il profumo non è tutto lì. Oltre a tutta la parte naturale degli agrumi e a quella luminosa dei muschi, il profumo possiede una qualità plastificata, artificiale come una bambola di gomma, che prende l'idea della Colonia classica e la porta in una direzione diversa, difficilmente classificabile .  Po

Or + Ange by Uermì is a scent I liked a lot. It's a strangely warm and slightly gourmand citrus fragrance, quite intriguing and not easily labelled , that I wore with curiosity. I spray it, and cannot help but keep smelling it, without understanding what kind of creature this was. A modern Cologne? A particularly intense citrusy fragrance? A musky scent with citrus notes? A gourmand scent with tons of musks? Boh! In any case, as soon as you wear it, you feel something simple and reassuring, almost childish, which deceives you making you think you understood it... after one hour, you realize there's a strong idea behind this scent, and a lot more happening in it. In addition to the natural feel of citrus fruits and of bright musks, Or+Ange festures a plasticized quality, artificial as a rubber doll, which takes the idea of classical Cologne and projects it to a different direction , uneasy to classify. Sheer pleasure. I can not think of a better way to describe Yvra1958 Cologne. Sheer pleasure. Which, talking about a Cologne, it is not such an obvious definition. Yvo Van Altena Rentgeren (ie Yvra, website here ) is a Dutch journalist in his fifties; educated, brilliant and naturally charming. I met him during last Pitti Fragranze and we chatted a bit. He told me how passion for perfume has transformed him into a brand owner, and how difficult and fun it has been creating his first scent, the YVRA1958 Cologne. Lemon, neroli, petit grain, pepper, cardamom, ginger, perhaps an aromatic note, patchouli, cedarwood, tonka bean and white musks build a Cologne at the same time classical (citrus fruits and orange blossom) and modern (the musks). Una goduria.  Ecco, non mi viene in mente un modo migliore per descrivere la colonia Yvra1958 . Una vera goduria. Che, diciamolo, parlando di una colonia non è una definizione così scontata.  Yvo Van Rentgeren Altena (ovvero Yvra, sito qui ) è un giornalista olandese sulla cinquantina; colto, brillante e naturalmente charmant. Oggi indosso Eperdument , l'ultimo lavoro di Antonio Alessandria  (sito qui ). Quando ci siamo visti a Pitti Fragranze Antonio me l'ha spruzzato sul polso, spiazzandomi completamente. When Alessandro Gualtieri launches something new, this generally creates a stir. And in fact about Seminalis , the new fragrance composed under the brand Orto Parisi , I already heard everything and everything's opposite well before I could put my nostrils on it. Quando Alessandro Gualtieri crea qualcosa di nuovo, per un motivo o per l'altro fa sempre discutere.  Ed infatti di Seminalis , la nuova fragranza composta per il suo marchio Orto Parisi (sito qui ) , avevo sentito tutto e il contrario di tutto ben prima di poterla annusare. Ero preparata a qualcosa di strano, controverso, al limite di brutale, e invece... E invece sono stata accarezzata , coccolata , confortata, letteralmente sedotta da un profumo di biscotti al burro appena sfornati, di pelle accarezzata dal sole, di latte caldo alla vaniglia. Questo Seminalis è un vero profumo da frun frun (… non fatevi strane idee, frun frun è il suono delle fusa feline).  In genere quando io percepisco i biscotti caldi al burro è perchè nel profumo c'è del sandalo naturale, e in questo caso potrei giurarci. Poi sento anche vaniglia, cacao, semi d'ambretta, del patchouli, forse dell'iris fiorentino. E qualche muschio bianco gessoso e polveroso che rinforza l'iris e

E finalmente Nobile 1942 ha lanciato il suo Sandalo Nobile ! Sì perchè Massimo e Stefania, i titolari del marchio Nobile 1942 ( sito web qui ), hanno già da qualche anno una bellissima linea, i cosiddetti “ Rigati ” , che esplora alcune materie prime della profumeria classica con uno stile pulito, luminoso, essenziale, rendendo omaggio alla materia prima di per sé, per la bellezza che essa stessa possiede, senza fronzoli né abbellimenti inutili.  I Rigati non hanno una collocazione temporale precisa, cioè in loro si esprime l'anima della nota, non il momento in cui la fragranza è stata composta, e perciò non hanno paura che qualcuno possa dire “Ah, è solo una Lavanda” oppure “Ah, un altro Patchouli”. Perchè non importa quando è stata composta, la loro Lavanda è intensamente aromatica, ruvida, classica e “inglese” fino al midollo e il Patchouli è vero patchouli umido, terroso, intero, affascinante (Luca Turin qualche anno fa ne aveva scritto una recensione fantastica...).
